Michaela Petit's Eighteenth Birthday

Michaela Petit was only eleven years old when she was taken from this world on July 23rd 2007.
She would be eighteen today.

Living in Connecticut, I was/am geographically fairly close to where the Petit family lived.

The series of crimes against this particularly down to earth family devastated me;

 I found myself fixated upon what all of them went through beginning with the 3 am home invasion and attack upon William Petit  10 or so baseball bat blows to the slumbering head of household;
(The Perpetrators' could easily see thru the Petit home's sun porch windows on that warm July early morning.)

A gripping question that I kept asking was why these crimes, which the Petit family complied completely with, ended with mother and two daughters all murdered despite Police car units driving within 1/8 of a mile of the Petit home when the first 911 call came in to Police re The Petit family their address details of a robbery and hostage kidnapping in progress with obvious precious time factors.

Truthfully I began to become obsessed emotionally as I learned more, my heart literally broke I lay in bed at night, visions of the crimes, what these girls experienced, the attack on Bill Petit and his shock and pain. I spent a lot of time thinking about little Michaela who had been sleeping in her mom's bed when the two assailant's grabbed the young girl and took her immediately away from her mother into her own bedroom, tying the terrified girl  to her bed surrounded by her own stuffed animals.

Something about those stuffed animals - the juxtaposition of such innocence clashing with the evil of Joshua komisarjevsky a pedophile at only 28 it was Michaela he'd spoted at a supermarket that day and decided to follow the pretty blonde girl home his own girlfriend ten years younger at 15 had just been relocated to Arkansas by her minister father who viwed Joshua as a career criminal and a paedophile.

I replayed the crimes in  my head as tiny pieces of evidence made it to the public .

Tragically I found out that Mrs. Petit's trusting nature inadvertantly aided and abetted her captors in that she managed to get out of the house when the men demanded she go to an out of ton bank to withdraw money while the other man stood guard with her vulnerable family. Thus far Komisarjevsky was holding his pedophilic desires I check for he knew Mrs Petit's compliance was completely necessary if he were to get the big prize the 15000 she would withdraw for them.

Hayes made two small trips and each time he left the huse this is when Joshua molested poor little Michaela whom he even had change into school girl outfits which he cut off of her body with scissors.

Shrewd he made certain to put he back into her pajamas before allowing her mother to see her briefly before she left for the bank with hayes. After they left Komisarjevsky was completely without conscience and the cell hone photos he took a tie stamped showed a drastic escalation in his sexual assaults as well his pornographic cell photos which are said to be  horrific.

Every ounce of me, as a woman and a human being wanted to rewind the whole Petit family crime, including the Cheshire Police's less than stellar handling of an immediately reported hostage situation-  their cars were already within 5 minutes of the crime as it was unfolding into a murderous rape and well planned preparation to burn to death the two  girls alive - one who was raped repeatedly and Hayley we will ever really know as she was burnt much more severely and this made accurate  rape samples improbable.

It was quite a coup that Jen Petit while being extorted of 15,000 at the bank somehow conveyed to a teller that she needed this unusually high amount cash fast in order to pay two men that were holding her family hostage tied up in their Sorghum hill home.

As well Mrs Petit managed to keep her cool as Steven Hayes sat slumped in the drivers seat trying to avoid any camara detection once te house was burned down and investigations began. With a cap over his eyes he was just within jens sight, sizing up her interaction with the teller at the counter.

She had only one chance to get word to the outside world but not tip off her captor- as her daughters were just a cell phone call away from Hayes who would order the other kidnapper to kill them all and meet him somewhere else.......or so she believed.


I have always held a deep respect and empathy for this strong woman she grabbed that chance to try to send in the cavalry  without tipping her kidnapper off and causing her family harm or death.

I have ruminated a thousand times over what Jennifer Petit felt as she entered her home with the money and was immediately pounced on by both men who tied her legs and arms straight away, the former innocuous façade and false politeness gone in a snap. The worst part was that a rope was found around her neck. This means that her murder was completely premeditated.

Jenns Her screams awoke unconscious Bill Petit and thus certainly the girls just up the stairs, heard their mothers pleadings and struggling and the ensuing ominous silence. Jennifer's larynx was broken in two different places, the second break killing her. Komisarjevsky according to Hayes paced in and out of the room \\\\\\\\\\747\\44\  k

I was not alone this unshakable frustration anger and broken hearted feeling that would not leave me;   As bits of news trickled out - and the news was scant it became clearer and clearer that some members of the Cheshire Police Department who gave directives repeatedly to not approach the Petit's home despite a swarm of Police cars and armed officers Dogs body armor and automatic weaponry, instead of trying to make contact the Cheshire hostage negotiator was told NOT to come no attempt was made to call the home or speak via bullhorn.

Instead standard tire strips and car blockades were set up up the small street that the Petit home was perched upon as the girls were being splashed with gasoline and a path poured from Jen Petit's body up the stairs to each girls room and all over their beds.  It turned out despite rigorous efforts BY Mrs. Petit, that hostage negotiator was told he wasn't needed ( it took 5 plus years for this information to sneak its way to the media, where it was swiftly away with little fanfare; The fact that such essential information was hidden for so long speaks volumes and  it is disgraceful..

Michaela had been sexually assaulted she lay tied in ripped pajamas doused in gasoline with a pillowcase over her head having been forced to shower as the rapist attempted his first go around with getting rid of his DNA which  was found anyway as was testified to in court by the medical examiner.

Hayley who had just undergone a punctured lung less than a month before this despicable attack also lay tied to her bed having broken her binds once already and komisarjevsky admitted calling in the then 240 lb Hayes to wrestle poor Hayley back onto her bed where she was tied much more firmly and goodness knows what else she suffered at the hands of these rapists and pedophiles.

After hearing their mother screaming and struggling with both Hayes and komisarjevsky after returning to the house giving Hayes exactly what the men asked for and of course promised the children and Dr. Petit wouldn't be harmed as long as they got their money.


Komisarjevsky whose motivation  for the home invasion was the desire to take over a house filled with the pretty blonde 11 year old whom he climed to the reporting detective she sure didn't look 11 to me!!! As if it were his victims fault for having a summer growth  spurt that left her appearing perhaps 13 or 14 at the most. As most people know he had spotted Michaela that very day skipping up the produce aisle at an area stop and shop where he slyly followed Mrs Petit and her daughters back to their house and scanned it out for accessibility and weak points for breaking in ; his specialty along with stalking and breaking and entering while the homeowners were in their home.

 He bragged to Police that he wouldn't break in to empty houses this was too boring" as well he admitted to breaking into over 100 houses in the area and often took trinkets that belonged to the female members of the homes.

This was a glaring warning sign of a sexual predator highly experienced in getting into homes now his only lack was physical size as he was rail thin and if he ran into any man or woman of good size, he would undoubtedly wind up on the receiving end of harm from the homeowner.

And the likelihood of his being able to rape anyone was fairly slim although as in the case of Mr Petit caught asleep on a couch he toted a baseball bat and rendered poor Bill Petit semi conscious sighting him asleep with a book on his chest through a sun porch window on the night of the home invasion.

His extremely frail build and cowardly sociopathic nature is why he procured the help of his accomplice Steven Hayes. Of course he immediately distanced himself from Hayes pointing the finger at him citing Hayes obsession with DNA despite the fact that until the very end of the morning only komisarjevsky had left his DNA anywhere when he was assaulting Michaela and taking cellphone photos of the acts which grew more violent when Mrs Petit left the house with Hayes.

Classic sneaky Sociopath he had been reeling Jennifer Petit in succeeding in winning her over with his guy next door face soft spoken voice and earnest promises. He would only molest Michaela prior to her protective mother finally leaving their home. Mrs Petit even asked if she could please see her daughters prior to leaving for the bank with Hayes as Komisarjevsky watched over" the girls.

Mrs. Petit was blindfolded and purposely kept from the area where her husband had been awoken with baseball bat blows to his skull He was quickly dragged out of sight and tied hand and foot to a pole in the cellar. If Mrs. Petit had been privy to the violence that Komisarjevsky was capable of --- she undoubtedly would have tried to escape at the bank or another juncture.


I was very torn about writing this article; I have read some of the family and friends wishes to not dwell on their loved ones murders, but rather to focus on their giving loving spirits.

I  feel the incredible spirit of this family, as well survivor Bill Petit Jr who has raised millions for victims of violence and many other great causes through the Petit Family Foundation which he has helped become successful and nearly self sustaining.

I too do not appear to remember these angels for the way that they died that appears sensationalistic - ever!

That said as a survivor, I know the importance of keeping the truth alive. The truth of what ended these three  lives are the very embodiment of this crime.

Some of the details of their murders, including the predation of a family simply shopping for  a nights meal, hold the answers to preventing crimes akin to these

Predation The ways of the Sociopath; they may vary  but fortunately they also all have similar traits - traits that we can learn about and soon we will be extremely  familiar with them.

And this knowledge transcends the intellectual; as does th eventual innate evading and escaping the stalk or grip of a predator - be it a full blown serial rapist murderer or a man who abuses women and or children.

The Death Penalty: An Issue with No Season

The italicized text below was procured from an article written by Dudley Sharpe in Ethika Politika

Sharpe is a well known writer and activist relentless proponent for A Justice system that actually deters violent  crime.  insisting our courts rid themselves of  the murky self perpetuating bureaucracy that so often aids and abets dangerous repeat violent offenders.  

Sharpe, like the majority of Connecticut residents  (multiple Quinnipiac polls proved repeatedly)  strongly believes in maintaining/reinstating the Death penalty as our capital punishment for those particularly brutal murders that fit a strict criteria.

Connecticut's legislature abolished the death penalty two years ago, passing the bill by a narrow margin, despite the well known wishes of the state's citizens to keep the death penalty as an option for prosecutors, as it had been for many, many years.

Initially we were told by our state's judiciary Committee that  abolishment of the death penalty bill came about as a way to save the state money at the precipice of a budget deficits the recession.

Ironically the expense that they referred to was the result of their own self defeating appeals process ; one which has virtually no limits making endless obligatory appeals by public defenders a built in neutering process. This rendered Connecticut's DP toothless insofar as the actual cessation of a thus sentenced inmates life, though many an offer to plead guilty in order to avoid the mere chance of being sentenced to death row " had been made over the years including Joshua komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes , convicted murderers of the Jennifer, Hayley and Michaela Petit.

Those offers will never be made now as taking a murder case to trial the worst that could happen is life without parole but the lawyer will always encourage a client they have nothing to lose" and may be given " life with the chance of parole" in a jury trial.

Jury trials especially with Conecticut's voire dire process are extremely expensive. The state pays for the prosecution and more often than not, the would be murderer's lawyer as well/ ie Public Defender.
Not to mention the Jury the Judge and the logistics of the mere process itself.

This is the part where the judiciary committee's foresight or at least their lame official reasoning of saving money by ridding the state of the death penalty is utter nonsense. And this doesn't begin to address the cost in human life as murder multiple murder sexual assault and child abduction and rape no longer carry the deterrence of even sitting alone on Death Row, technically awaiting being put to sleep by injection.  

Clearly the fact that the Death penalty just looming over the murderous inmate was not something even the worst rapist and murderers wanted to be subjected to, yet the State of Connecticut has removed our paltry as it was "big gun" in the sentencing realm. 


For the last two years, debate about the relevance of the Kermit Gosnell case to wider political concerns has focused on the abortion issue. But with Gosnell now found guilty of murder, the possibility of his execution (now removed as the result of a deal struck with prosecutors) has pitted pro-lifers against one another in a debate over the death penalty.

First, Professor Robert George issued a plea for mercy. Ashley McGuire seconded this, arguing that pro-lifers “must stay focused on saving babies, not on killing their killers.” Calling for Gosnell’s execution, McGuire argued, simply perpetuates the culture of death. John Zmirak then disagreed with both George and McGuire, arguing that sparing a murderer the death penalty “shows profound disrespect to his victims.”
Given that all participants in the debate seem to be Catholic, it might be instructive to look at what the Catechism says about capital punishment:

Assuming that the guilty party’s identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor.
If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people’s safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and more in conformity to the dignity of the human person.

I’d like to ruminate a little on what precisely the Catechism means when it says that authorities should limit themselves to non-lethal forms of punishment if these “are sufficient to defend and protect people’s safety.”

Pro-life Catholics who oppose the death penalty generally take an extremely narrow view of what this means. Professor George, for example, has argued that “the state does not have the right to inflict capital punishment—no matter how grave the offense and no matter how clear the guilt of the accused—unless effective incarceration is impossible and execution is the only way to prevent this particular murderer from killing again.”

But it is not clear that this is the only possible way of framing the question. The decision of whether to impose the death penalty is not simply at the discretion of a trial judge who is dealing with the case of “this particular murderer.” Legislators will have already specified the offenses that may merit capital punishment, and will usually provide judges with further guidance such as identifying “aggravating factors” (for example, multiple killings) that invite a capital sentence. Whether the death penalty is imposed is conditioned to a large extent by the legislature. The role of the judge is simply to apply the law in a particular case. Even the Supreme Court’s decision in Gregg v. Georgia (1976) that ruled mandatory capital punishment as unconstitutional does not leave sentencing simply for judges to decide. The Court upheld sentencing guidelines for capital punishment in Georgia that were wholly pre-determined by the state legislature. It goes without saying that strict guidance from legislators is necessary to avoid arbitrary sentencing by judges; this guidance largely determines how the death penalty operates.

Lawmakers cannot deal with the question of whether to execute this murderer, but only of whether to execute murderers in general. In making a judgment as to whether the death penalty is necessary for the protection of public safety, legislators have to consider more than merely the question of whether “effective incarceration” is theoretically possible. The fact that it is possible not to execute killers doesn’t establish that that it is morally obligatory to do so, particularly when there are arguments to suggest that the overall result of abolishing capital punishment (rather than the result of merely commuting sentence in a particular case) would be to place public safety in jeopardy.
When Demetry Smirnov killed his ex-girlfriend in Illinois in 2011, prosecutors discovered that he had researched the law on the internet to discover if the state had the death penalty before going ahead with the killing. It is reasonable to assume that if Illinois had not just abolished it, she might be alive today.

It has also been pointed out that, where the death penalty is abolished and life sentences remain for rape, rapists may be more likely to kill their victims in order to prevent them testifying, since the sentence in either case will be identical. The only way to prevent the incentivization of murder is, therefore, to lower the sentences required for a range of other crimes. But these lower sentences simply make those lesser crimes more likely to be committed, and so on. Abolition has a cascade effect down through the criminal justice system that potentially places public welfare at risk. One only needs to look across the Atlantic at Britain, which, within a few decades of abolishing capital punishment, has gone from having one of the most rigorous sentencing systems in the West to one of the most lenient, leading to frequent and widely-supported calls among the general public for the reintroduction of hanging.

Even when abolition is accompanied with mandatory life sentencing for killers, there is no guarantee that future legislators, judges, state governors, and prison officials will honor this. In 1966 Kenneth McDuff was sentenced to death for the killing of two teenage boys and the brutal rape and murder of their female companion. When the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia (1972), his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

 Under pressure of serious overcrowding in Texas prisons, he was released in 1989. Within three days he had killed again, and over the next three years would go on to kill at least five more women before finally being apprehended. Countless other examples can be cited of killers who have been released or escaped and have gone on to kill again, or who have killed again in prison. Whether or not the death penalty is required as a matter of strict retributive justice, it is morally repugnant for the state to privilege the safety of a violent criminal over the safety of an entire population.


It often happens that those who spend their lives fighting for a particular cause can—particularly when it is as crucial as the pro-life cause—become blinded to other values which are of equal or greater importance. Fighting to ensure due respect for the sanctity of life should not lead us to canonize human life as the ultimate moral value, as if the final destiny of the human person was simply to go on existing without reference to any further end or purpose. Even when considered in purely this-worldly terms, social order is clearly a higher good than human life. Without social order a genuinely human life is impossible, since humans are by nature social animals.


Whether the death penalty is required to maintain social order in a particular country, at a particular time in history, is a prudential judgment upon which reasonable people will disagree. I am not arguing that criminals must be executed as a matter of retributive justice. Nor am I necessarily calling for the death penalty to be reintroduced in places where it has been abolished. Neither am I calling for Kermit Gosnell to be executed (the deal struck in his case seems perfectly reasonable). But, given that it is not inherently unjust to execute a murderer, legislators and judges should err on the side of protecting public safety, a task that is infinitely more complex than asking the simple question of whether we have enough prison places. To fail to execute offenders where it would genuinely protect the commonwealth would be a dereliction of duty on the part of the state. As Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said, “the refusal to impose just punishment is not mercy but cowardice.”

Cheshire Police Department Sexist Thinking Contributed to Tragic Triple Murders Outcomes Revealed

Suffice to say, at the very least,  I am angered and disgusted by the information gleaned from a recent of posts and articles regarding" newly released" phone evidence that has suddenly reared its head via a suspiciously limited media release - nearly inconspicuous one might say, with almost no national attention given at all to the new regarding the Petit family murders.

Needless to say, this release came nowhere near getting the attention that it deserved and warranted, as many other lesser important " news"stories do

Many familiar with the tragic Petit Murder case were not completely surprised by the unbelievably insulting not to mention dangerously presumptive thought processes of  certain members of the Cheshire Police Higher Ups who appear to have bungled cruelly whilst acting on their own prejudices when the essential first 911 call came from the Bank Manager where hostage Jennifer Petit had quietly managed to slip information re her family's perilous kidnapping which was underway at that very moment.

From that initial 911call, t would be 38 long minutes before the Hayley Michaela and Jennifer Petit would be murdered by Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes, the children tied to their beds and doused in gasoline in order to rid the telltale DNA of sexual assaults upon the girls.

Infuriatingly Cheshire PD  had a Car patrolling the area of the soon to be murders prior to the murders ....by at least 35 minutes!
That Patrol-man was ordered to not approach giving the killers ample time and a false sense of  security to prepare the house and their victims for a heinous death.

I along with many others smelled a rat a long time ago,  as the Cheshire Police department's response to the Petit family murders; their  reflexive omission of important facts and their re-sculpting of the crimes timeline on the day of the murders, these were all red flags that something was very wrong with their recounting of the crimes.

Police spokesmen were caught red handed claiming that"the house was on fire as they arrived at the scene" Yet, we've heard from neighbors that they'd spotted policemen and SWAT members in the bushes 10 15 minutes prior to any sign of smoke or flames, thus exposing Cheshire PD's official
statement and timeline as blatant lies purposely covering up their poor decision making and being
causative components in the murders of a mother and her two young daughters.



I came upon this slightly aged article Fox Story re newly released Cheshire PD's phone records yesterday and it was enough to jar me out of a short blogging hiatus that was the result of a family crisis..

Obviously, the new information makes me very angry but it explains or confirms a lot. First of all, it smacks of major cover-up, massive mishandling and it confirms what I have suspected since Jennifer Hayley and Michaela were murdered and Bill was severely injured;
The Cheshire Police dept. not only screwed up badly and in my opinion aided and abetted these murders, but equally as horrific some members obviously committed a purposeful mendacious cover up from the day of the Murders on.


I vividly recall a Police Captain or other higher up within the Cheshire Police Department speaking to the media ( it was recently shown on the HBO documentary about the Petit crimes in fact) with him unflinchingly claiming that they got the call from a 911 call emanating from the Bank of America where Mrs Petit had confided to the teller that her family was being held hstage for money and that they dispatched units right away and when said units arrived at the sorghum hil house owned by the Petit family, they saw Bill Petit "exit" the house via thw bilco basement door injured and the house immediately burst into flames"


 While I am very reluctant to rehash the inordinate amount of pain that these crimes have caused so many  I strongly believe that I would be morally remiss to not point out that this " newly uncovered bit of police phone evidence" paints a picture of a misogynistic police officer whose immediate thought to the bank tellers 911 call and story would certainly seem to be that Mrs. Petit was trying to pull a fast one on her husband with their bank accounts!


This also doesn't add up as does the fact that Bill Petit was not assisted by Cheshire Police dept. who were all over the surrounding Petit property - and had been for a minimum of 15 20 minutes or more; police later admitted they watched poor Bill (who had summoned a burst of adrenalin and  broken the wrist zip-ties from the basement pole where he'd been left by the murdering rapists, rolling across his own lawn with his feet still bound, weak, scared unable to crawl head bloodied;
This, and Cheshire PD officers  waited until Bill Petit reached his neighbors Garage a considerable distance especially wounded with massive blood loss.


 It was raining now and the neighbors Garage door was closed; Dr Petit was desperate to save his family knowing they were in the house with two maniacs, he was  yelling for help having made it to the neighbors house before the cops approached seemingly out of nowhere no questions then demanded how many people were in the house how many in the house?


He kept yelling in response to the plainclothes policemen " the girls! the girls the girls are in the house!!!"

Remember, this man had severe head injuries inflicted with a bat, he was in shock on blood thinnersand  which hastens blood loss, yet  he was furiously trying to save his family;without letting him even explain any details and ignoring and or refusing to untie his feet, which according to his testimony he'd been begging for and no one - not even the paramedics would do it an those binds were plastic and digging into his flesh!

Police simply instructed the ambulance to depart and take him to the hospital.
No questions asked.

 
This entire gaggle of new information regarding the Cheshire police captain's dubiousness re the genuineness of poor Jnnifer Petit reminds me of so many domestic violence calls that Police get. Of course there was no domestic violence involved in this set of crimes but it is the same kind of mentality that I have witnessed in so many DV calls by various Police patrol men and women and their higher ups such as the on call lieutenants, the people who often call the shots re how a patrolmen should does indeed "handle" a given call. This isn't to say every dept is the same but there are too many  departments whereupon I've witnessed or been told that the Police officer responded to a DV call reflexively treating the woman ho was victimized as if she is up suspect, dishonest exaggerating or at fault for being with the man - that mindset which we thought was archaic has made a huge resurgence in some Connecticut Police departments.  have even witnessed the trivialization and debasing of victims of stalking harassment,  threatening and Assault.


The case of Tracy Thurman vs The Torrington Police Dept. in the 1990's served as a watershed moment for the state of Connecticut which had bee sorely lackadaisical and apathetic towards its ever growing victims of intimate violence. insofar as as most intimate violence cases. Sadly like most change, it was propelled by money; A massive lawsuit that Ms Thurman won against the Torrington Police for their inaction's in past DV calls and the final one whereupon a gaggle of officers from the T,P,D stood back and didn't intervene as Ms. Thurman's husband stabbed her repeatedly in the neck chest and face. The Torrington PD had been called out to the Thurman residence on at least 12 occasions for physical abuse and threats often by worried neighbors.


My observations common sense and most importantly - instinct - is telling me that what we are now seeing a return to the old boy club mindset ie sexist, chauvinistic indeed misogynistic attitudes that long - dominated the handling of Domestic Violence, an outdated umbrella term that in reality  includes dating violence stalking, intimate violence, partner violence, threatening harassing and trespassing.

As a terminology Domestic Violence is not only becoming pre historic it is grossly inaccurate as most of these cases have many police calls involving  intimate violence haven't a shred of domesticity within the scope of the crimes yet are being lumped in with a branch of police and court processing that is widely known to be considered unimportant and is treated as such.

Even calls like the originating Petit 911 call where this officers involved used his own prejudices in judging a call re a dangerous situation that was first intercepted and handed to Police by the Bank Manager who descrbed a terrified Mrs. Petit,  the hostage in question, greatly influenced the direction that this entire department took in response to what was in fact an attempted murder ( Dr. Petit's baseball bat beating at the hands of komisarjevsky "

I Hit him quote as hard as I could, as if chopping wood" this h told author Brian McDonald during a prison interview which never should have bee allowed to happen - another victimization of this family the community and the greater society at large as many deeply emotionally entrenched in his case due to the depravity done to children the torturous deaths despite their complete compliance as well  the sadistic and unnecessary baseball ball bat beating of Bill Petit's head- this as he was sound asleep at 3 am unawares that the two rapist thief murderers approached the house were watching him through the sun porch windows.

The leader was the assailant who enjoyed attacking Petit way to much. In effect the decision makers at the Cheshire PD wound up inadvertently or not aiding and abeting Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes in the sexual assault ad murder or Jennifer Petit and her two daughters, charitable people who were loved by so many,

Newly revealed Cheshire Police Dept Phone Evidence Reveals Subterfuge,and Police Bungling and Blantan Cover-uping added to Tragic triple murders

I am completely disgusted by this " new" phone evidence by the Cheshire PD Cheshire Police appear to have bungled big time in Petit family murders, but the worst part is that I am not completely surprised.

I smelled a rat a long time ago insofar as the Cheshire Police department's response to the Petit family murders, Their reflexive omission of important facts and their revision of the crimes crucial life and death timeline on the morning of the murders; these were all red flags that something was very wrong with their first official reports to media and public.

 As a few days passed after the crimes in July 2007, it became clear that the Chshire PD had been caught being less than truthful when they announced - on TV no less  house was on fire as they arrived at the scene as wed already heard from some neighbors that they'd spotted policemen and SWAT members in the bushes 10 15 minutes prior to any sign of smoke or flames. truths to lie to the public about their response and the crimes immediately following said media's discovery of the statewide tragedy.


Now Years later I come upon this slightly aged article Fox Story re newly released Cheshire PD's phone records (yesterday to be exact and the news and its implications were enough to jar me out of a short blogging hiatus resulting from a  family crisis.

Obviously, the new information is infuriating but it also explains or confirms a lot. First of all, it smacks of major cover-up, massive mishandling and it confirms what I have suspected since Jennifer Hayley and Michaela were murdered and Bill was severely injured;
The Cheshire Police dept. not only screwed up badly and in my opinion aided and abetted these murders, but equally as horrific some members obviously committed a purposeful mendacious cover up from the day of the Murders on.


I vividly recall a Police Captain or other higher up within the Cheshire Police Department speaking to the media ( it was recently shown on the HBO documentary about the Petit crimes in fact) with him unflinchingly claiming that they got the call from a 911 call emanating from the Bank of America where Mrs. Petit had confided to the teller that her family was being held hostage for money and that they dispatched units right away and when said units arrived at the Sorghum hill home owned by the Petit family, They States that they saw Bill Petit "exit" the house via the bilco basement door injured and almost the house immediately was engulfed in flames"


 While I am very reluctant to rehash the inordinate amount of pain that these crimes have caused so many  I strongly believe that I would be morally remiss to not point out that this " newly uncovered bit of police phone evidence" paints a picture of a misogynistic police officer whose immediate thought to the bank tellers 911 call and story would certainly seem to be that Mrs. Petit was trying to pull a fast one on her husband with their bank accounts!


This also doesn't add up as does the fact that Bill Petit was not assisted by Cheshire Police dept. who were all over the surrounding Petit property - and had been for a minimum of 15 20 minutes or more; police later admitted they watched poor Bill (who had summoned a burst of adrenalin and  broken the wrist zip-ties from the basement pole where he'd been left by the murdering rapists, rolling across his own lawn with his feet still bound, weak, scared unable to crawl head bloodied;
This, and Cheshire PD officers  waited until Bill Petit reached his neighbors Garage a considerable distance especially wounded with massive blood loss.


 It was raining now and the neighbors Garage door was closed; Dr Petit was desperate to save his family knowing they were in the house with two maniacs, he was  yelling for help having made it to the neighbors house before the cops approached seemingly out of nowhere no questions then demanded how many people were in the house how many in the house?


He kept yelling in response to the plainclothes policemen " the girls! the girls the girls are in the house!!!"

Remember, this man had severe head injuries inflicted by repetitive blows to hs head with a bat, he  on a drug for heart issues that thins the blood  hastening  blood loss and really it was a miracle that he was alive hours after being beaten and tied hand and foot to a pole in his cellar.

Yet, Bill Petit was furiously trying to save his family; without letting him even explain any details and ignoring and or refusing to untie his feet, which according to his testimony he'd been begging for and no one - not even the paramedics would do it an those binds were plastic and digging into his flesh!

Police simply instructed the ambulance to depart and take him to the hospital.
No questions asked.

 
This entire gaggle of new information regarding the Cheshire police captain's dubiousness re the genuineness of poor Jennifer Petit reminds me of so many domestic violence calls that Police get. Of course there was no domestic violence involved in this set of crimes but it is the same kind of mentality that I have witnessed in so many DV calls by various Police patrol men and women and their higher ups such as the on call lieutenants, the people who often call the shots re how a patrolmen should does indeed "handle" a given call.

Sadly like most change, it was propelled by money; A massive lawsuit that Ms Thurman won against the Torrington Police for their inaction's in past DV calls and the final one whereupon a gaggle of officers from the T,P,D stood back and didn't intervene as Ms. Thurman's husband stabbed her repeatedly in the neck chest and face. The Torrington PD had been called out to the Thurman residence on at least 12 occasions for physical abuse and threats often by worried neighbors.

That was a flagrant lie-and where there is flagrant lying there is often flagrant abuse of power.

This decision along with the cavalier approach by Police in such a small
town where hostage taking and kidnapping is an unusual happening to say the least
just because one Cheshire Police officer was  cynical, sexist and misogynistic ie his
reflexive assumption that this woman traumatized tied up all night and exhausted and frightened to her wits  probably really had nefarious motivations up her sleeve planning to defraud her husband because one of the accounts she needed money from was in his name?

Another essential question here folks is why was this information seemingly slipped through the media and certainly not given the attention I warranted by major print and web publications?

This news should have saturated the major media- yet it didn't - why?

Dr Petit has built a new life for himself and I am thrilled that he has finally been granted new joy to balance out the stain that the as and the murders of his family have left, this in no way takes away from the fact that wrongdoing and cover up for the murders of his precious first wife and children is in any way less egregious or important. In every speech including the one he recently made at the Petit foundations Ride for Justice he speaks of the juxtaposition of feelings created by these events.

The Petit Family Foundation, formed in the wake of these crimes, has become incredibly successful and  they are helping others but naturally remind him and his family of Jennifer Hayley and Michaela his "girls", whom he still misses terribly.


I am aware as are others, from interviews and via the grapevine, that Dr Petit has aways supported the Cheshire Police Depts handling of the crimes hat resulted in the murder of his wife and daughters. Then again he still lives in this area and there is a natural inclination for

I also know that Jennifer Petit's family seem to feel quite differently about the Police Bungling, as I must admit I would  -and do even as a non family member. From the start it became quite clear that certain members of  the Cheshire Police Department really failed the Petit family and all of us by their poor handling of these crimes.

In effect the decision makers at the Cheshire PD wound up inadvertently or not aiding and abeting Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes in the sexual assault ad murder or Jennifer Petit and her two daughters, charitable people who were loved by so many,

The thrust of this Post is about fixing what is broken and time is of the essence - lives hang in the balance here;Training and indeed de-programming, such as is done for members of cult,  will be essential for many Police departments in this State. The deprogramming is necessary because the poisonous apath, sexism and prejudice is already been plated in many police cadets and long standing officers who have slowly been sliding backwards to pre-Torrington old habits.

Many Connecticut Courts dare I say most, are equally or more culpable; in fact the 97 percent  plea bargain mode of " processing" resulting in dropped charges and little to no prison time(suspended sentences are quite common. Felonios assaults becoming misdemeanors  are also the norm for  broken bones, choked necks battered brains and faces - simply because the men who dominate the court systems have their own chauvinistic attitudes along with the usual apathy cynicism cronyisim and yes, favor swapping from prosecutors who will get their paychecks at the end othe end of the week without having the burden of preparing for a trial ( including but certainly not exclusive to Connecticuts lengthy voire dire process, the male dominated district attorneys offices do not encourage trials for so called domestic violence because from where I sit as a whole they simply do not care enough and their higher ups suffer from the very same lack of interest.

This dangerous attitude has slowly crept into more courts and has managed to discourage many a well meaning new victim's advocate who finds out quickly that her so called advocacy is a sham; she or he is impotent in actually affecting any outcome or even swaying these prosecutors whose minds are often made up after one or two chats with the ' defendents" ie batterer stalker etc. Lawyer.

And more grant monies for so called specialized Domestic Violence Dockets are wasted/ Monies that could be used to truly impart change retraining and policing the court's with outside agencies that have actual lawyers who don't belong to the same bar and "don't play ball".  .

This Post began over a recent piece of hidden information that might help explain the inertia of a Police department that allowed three people to be murdered as they stood behind trees outside the home where rape was occurring and death was being prepared for.
It has seguayed into issues of misogyny within Police departments and Connecticut's many issues with its court's procedures" for crimes against women

 Our State's Police departments and Criminal Court houses are comprised of human beings, individuals make up entities and agencies.too often citizens come to think of a Court or a parole board as an entity- and if its broken

Broken or even ailing systems will never self - repair, nor will one right minded person survive much less fix anything in such contaminated systems.  

Typically when things become this broken down, a team of completely objective hands - on experts who have no connection to the " rotten apple" must be sequestered carefully from an outside source that is pure, meaning they have no agenda other than to decide whether repairing is possible and who to let go in order to rebuild.

However People have to care enough to petition the corrupt system. Evil exists when good men do nothing is a mantra for me( quote by Voltaire) I have Lived long enough to see that while there are a lot of good kind well meaning people in this world, when it comes to fighting or more aptly, changing what are seen as authority based bureaucracies, such as police departments, Parole boards, Courts,  judicial systems, most folks reflexively thrown thier hands up in an impotence fueled, its all too messed up and what can I do about it anyway?

As someone born with a natural disdain for injustice of any kind whether it be involving human beings animals any living creature I have fought against the unjust and corrupt for many years now.
 I have seen enough to know that caring is not enough action including using our voting rights to weed out the clearly corrupt and professional politicians .

must be taken and the first step is a banding together of like minded people and  correct courageous and dedicated people must take the leap of courage and effort to care.

Annual Petit Family Foundation's Ride For Justice' A Big Success!

Motorcycle riders got on their bikes Sunday to remember the victims of the deadly Cheshire home invasion. The Ride for Justice left from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol at 11:30 a.m.
The Ride for Justice is the motorcycle communities’ way of supporting Dr. William Petit and his foundation

“These events are always happy but tinged with sadness,” Dr. Petit said.

 “Jennifer would’ve been 55 this week. Michaela and Hayley have birthdays coming up. One would’ve been 18 the other 24"
.
Dr. Petit’s first family was taken, but he is currently starting a new family.

 A baby is on the way, and the motorcycle riders we were talking to Sunday say that’s inspiring.

“After it happened, he looked like a ghost, but you look now you can tell that he’s happy,” one rider said.

The Fishers of Bristol say as they are riding past autumn leaves and feeling the wind in their faces, their thoughts will be with Hayley, Michaela and Jennifer:


“You can’t help but think about it. … It’s just a terrible thing, I mean, loss of life and the way it happened. Unthinkable.”


But from that atrocity, strangers came together to help Dr. Petit and his cause.

Even though the Fishers have done the Ride for Justice for four years, they’ve never actually met Dr. Petit. But it doesn’t matter. They say he could’ve been any father in any house.


Doctor Petit is not a motorcycle rider himself, but for this event he’s happy to hitch a ride on the back of one. And the road ahead from here looks bright for Dr. Petit, both personally and for the foundation, which hit the million dollar mark this year for grants.

Arias Case: New Juror's twitter accounts will be monitered!

Yet another bizarre effect that the tech- age is having on the criminal judicial system.
Chasing Justice will give you updates on the upcoming second sentencing trial of Jodi Arias, convicted murderess of Travis Alexander.

As most of you know Arias was convicted of the brutal murder of her ex boyfriend last year , but the Jury became hung" during the sentencing phase, the portion of the trial where the sentence is decided amongst the jurors. The case was clearly pre-meditated, in fact some of I was caught on camera as Arias accidently took some photos whilst holding Travis's camera with one hand and dragging his bloodied body into the shower.

Police later retrieved the camera and the memory card with a plethora of photos intact after arias  tried to put the camera through her victims washing Machine.

According to Arizona law when a Jury becomes deadlocked on a convicted persons sentence, a mini mistrial of sorts is declared on the Sentencing portion only, thankfully sparing everyone involved the pain and expense of an entire new trial which is the case in many other States.

Arias's trial was lengthy and her defense carried on quite a show trying to depict her as a battered woman who " snapped" .

This theory was largely debunked by Arias's own words in Television interviews as well as mountains of evidence supporting pre meditated murder provoked by jealous rage. She and Travis Alexander had dated a short time, but the relationship was extremely volatile and several incidents of Arias stalking Travis after he had begun dating another woman were related to the Police and the Jury during thetrial.

The stalking evolved into destructive law breaking such as slashing her ex beau's tires on two spearte occasions. Despite the obvious instability of Ms. Arias Travis Alexander made the same mistake many women who are involved with predators do; he continued and on again off again sexual relationship which ultimately was his undoing.
After an afternoon of sexual romping Jodi Arias began snapping photos of Travis taking a shower, the photos were retrieved from the washer days later when Alexanders friends found his body stuffed nto his shower stall.
He had been stabbed almost 20 times was shot in the face and his throat was cut from ear to ear from behind.

Arias originally denied being anywhere near Travs's home on the day of the murder eventually admitting she was there once confronted with the photographic and DNA evidence.

Naturally she now claimed it was self defense although could not explain the furious overkill of 20 stab wounds a gunshot to the head and the horrific throat slashing.

The nation has its eyes trained upon The Jodi Arias Trial it was one of the most highly covered cases in the past 15 years. Arias was and is clearly a sociopath as well as a borderline Personality disorder.

While society is used to seeing these disorders in male murderers, unfortunately especially for Travis alexander, it is not largely understood that these oft times violent personality disorders also affect woman, who can be as dangerous or perhaps more so especially when they are attractive and or have a demure affectation. And the word affectation is key here; Sociopaths and other serious Personality disordered persons are expert manipulators; they can be charming persuasive and more often than not articulate and intelligent. This is what makes them so dangerous; people do not want to believe that they are capable of acts of brutal violence and the consequential cover-up of such acts.

FBI Sex Trafficking Raid Saves over 100 Children 150 Arrests Made

This FBI  operation is an excellent  start and while I am very happy for these rescued victims, much more needs to be done across the Country.

From what I have read, this sting was one of a Government operation called "Innocence Lost"  focused on putting a crimp in the sex trafficking business, with the emphasis on saving children, teens and young adults who are tragically the bread and butter of these particular sex crimes.

Many of these victims are thrust into the nightmare of forced prostitution via coercion from pimps who might  first play the concerned adult friend to a  naive runaway.

These "pimps" are often white, as you can see in the arrest photos attached to the link. The pimps may work alone, but many are part of larger criminal organizations that ultimately make millions from the exploitation, pain and misery of runaways and kidnapped children and teenagers.


Let's hope that this project is only the beginning of a long overdue Government assault on the atrocity of "sex trafficking."

As is often the case, the term "sex trafficking" itself is far too benign for what these crimes truly are, and what they involve on a day to day basis. This is organized purposeful rape often of  our nations most vulnerable youth -  huge sums of money being made from  brainwashing beating torture and
The Government the media and even society has a way of  using words that cleanse and make more palatable certain violent crimes,  dehumanizing them in the process which serves to invalidate the pain and suffering that the victims of these crimes endure often for years.

In some cases, this niceified nomenclature is done unwittingly ( ie without malicious purpose) but nonetheless, it contributes to an overall perception that ultimately robs these crimes of their actual grotesque nature. Secondarily, this whitewashed terminology plays down the evil and callousness committed by the perpetrators.


In the meantime, as individuals and communities,  we would do well to understand that raids such as "Operation Cross Country"  need to be organized and executed as steadfastly as the sex trafficking industry grows.

As individuals and communities we must aggressively support ongoing projects such as " Operation Cross Country." This was a herculean effort by the FBI and participating law enforcement agencies:

The Operation saved one hundred  lives -almost all of them very young lives - Lives, otherwise doomed to a hellish existence.

In order to gain some insight click on the Huff Post Link above and watch the posted videos included in their piece. This should help the average person comprehend the common question "why didn't the teenagers/ children simply run away" ie from their pimps, the forced prostitution etc

The article also helps opens eyes to the emotional and physical scars that these crimes leave upon their victims. No matter how much time passes there is a shame that accompanies being victimized by crimes like these.

Just like any other victim of violent crime, these victims are going to need a great deal of therapeutic assistance and support from their families and their communities in order to heal and re-integrate into society. This is where Social services is usually not enough and the Private Sector needs to stand up and step in.

These are our children. they are being victimized by the hundreds of thousands and they will need a lot of help to recover from the crimes besot upon them.

This is made more complicated by the fact that many of these victims were children or teens originally running away from physical and/or sexual abuse at home. This is not to say that every runaway was abused; certainly a smaller portion ran away over more standard adolescent/parental discord. However social service agencies and other peripheral agencies need to be extremely cautious in not sending a at risk teenage or the now young adult victim of sex crimes back into an abusive environment - or even under the influence of a familial would be predator/abuser.

The terrible  reality is that forced prostitution and sex trafficking is a booming illegal business in this Country and many others.. Sickeningly, the sexual demand for children and young teens never abates - it is a constant. We have actresses actors and other such stars walking carpets for breast cancer Aids and a myriad of other worthy causes, lets give equal time to this rapidly growing horror show.

Branford Mant Recieves only Ten Years for Crippling Baseball Bat Assault

When  read this Article in The New Haven Register I was angry, but sadly not surprised.

This sad outcome is the result of simply another  inappropriate" Plea deal" where the perpetrator winds up with far less prison time than the law allows and indeed dictates, for the violent crime (s) he committed.

In this case, a terribly brutal assault  has rendered a man handicapped for life.  The victim is and/was at the time of the assault, an former New Haven Police officer.

The man responsible has served two years since the crime occurred and thus this leaves him with 8 more years to serve in theory;

 However, being more than somewhat familiar with this States " Early release programs" and   time off for ' good behavior" the norm often winds up with an inmates released into halfway houses at about the halfway mark of their actual sentences. This time in the halfway house is technically considered part of their prison sentence despite the fact that the inmate is typically free to come and go to work etc while living in these state paid halfway houses..

When one read about the savagery of the attack and the injuries that this assailant inflicted upon this victim, it is a miracle that this victim survived. In fact this easily could have warranted an attempted murder charge considering half of this poor man's skull was missing as a result of this baseball bat beating.

This makes the fact that the assault one charge was ultimately dropped to a lower charge with a lower corresponding sentence - even more infuriating and unacceptable.  The physical emotional and financial cost to the victim and his family have been  monumental.

Adding insult to injury to the victim and his family is the inordinate amount of time that it has taken to adjudicate this case.

The assault occurred over two years ago in 2011.

Its not as if the case went to trial thus necessitating the infamously time consuming States Individual  Voire dire Jury selection process-  -  This case was "Plea Dealed" which means it's simply been dragging on in the court with continuances i.e. requests for more time by the lawyer and/ or prosecutor which occur at so called " hearings" that typically are rescheduled  4 - 8 weeks apart.

Plea deals for those not familiar are where the charges are dropped to less serious charges in exchange for the defendant's guilty plea albeit to charges crimes that are watered down versions of what they actually committed. Ie This assault one which carried a 20 year possible sentence wound up and assault 2 more than likely.  This is standard operating procedure for Connecticut courts with approximately 97 percent of all crimes thus adjudicated.

The original concept of the plea bargain was that the defendant pleads guilty to what he or she has done and only by doing so takes accountability and is rewarded with a somewhat more lenient sentence.

It has been used and abused by lawyers and even prosecutors as an easy way to insure some kind of conviction ( for the prosecutors record) However the cost of this conviction" is the automatic dropping of charges down in severity, such as this case, which is standard protocol in Connecticut courts with some courts much worse than others.

An assault one becomes and assault two as a result of todays plea deals and if there are other charges against the defendant some of them will simply disappear not because the defendant didn't commit the crime but simply for no other reason than its part of " the deal"

The State of Connecticut winds up with a violent criminal that has a record that doesn't reflect the crimes that he has actually committed, thus the danger he poses to the public at large, is watered down. This is essential when police look at his criminal record if and when he re-offends .

This is a cycle that often leads to more victims in the future,  and the whole plea process begins again. Generally speaking a criminal has to commit a felony at least a gaggle of times before he might actually wind up with a felony conviction. And for each of those freebies, there is a victim.  

Such is the Criminal Justice System in the State of Connecticut; A revolving door of administrative deal making.

Connecticut Crime Victim Privacy Panel Taking Shape

The task force charged with making recommendations to the General Assembly to balance victim privacy under Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act with the public's right to know is taking shape.

Gov. Daniel P. Malloy named two appointees on Friday. They include New Haven police officer Jillian Knox, who is assigned to her department's Victim Services Unit, and Andrew Woods, executive director of Hartford Communities that Care. His organization is a nonprofit group that promotes a nonviolent, drug-free environment.

House Speaker Brendan Sharkey, meanwhile, has appointed Hartford Rep. Angel Arce to the panel. Arce's father, Angel Arce Torres, was struck by a hit-and-run driver in 2008. The 78-year-old was paralyzed and later died.

The 17-member crime victim privacy task force was created in legislation that blocked release of crime scene photos and video evidence from the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, which took the lives of 20 first graders and six educators. The new law, which applies to other cases as well, prevents the release of photographs, film, video and other images depicting a homicide victim if those records "could reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of the personal privacy of the victim or the victim's surviving family members."

The legislation marked an eleventh-hour compromise during the final hours of this year's session. Malloy's office originally worked privately with legislative leaders and the state's top prosecutor to draft a bill that would address the concerns of families who lost relatives at Sandy Hook.

The new law also creates a one-year moratorium on the release of certain portions of audiotape or other recordings in which the condition of a homicide victim is described. The exemption did not include 911 emergency calls, however.

Other members of the task force are expected to include law enforcement personnel, victim advocates, representatives of the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists, academics, Freedom of Information advocates and others. The group must submit its recommendations to the legislature by Jan. 1.
